Bananas For Bananas

I admit it, I LOVE bananas!  The other day I had a craving for some banana pie.  I LOVE banana pie almost as much as I love bananas!

This pie was super easy to make and so yummy!  Pinball Wizard LOVED it!

Harry Potter didn't care for it but then he doesn't like bananas.  Weird, I know.  Now if I made a tomato pie he just might go for that!  hehehe  Oh how I wish Harry Potter would eat the yummy treats I make.

I guess I should look on the bright side.  If Harry Potter won't eat this delicious pie then that just means that there is more for Pinball Wizard and me!   :-)

The Demented Sock Monkey

I finally finished my sock monkey.  He's very interesting looking to say the least!  Pinball Wizard thinks he looks like something from the Twilight Zone.  I think he just plain looks weird!  Harry Potter, however, just loves him!  He has named him Ogre because he says he looks like an ogre.  Funny, I don't think he looks  like an ogre!  For one, he's not green.

Making the sock monkey was a lot of fun.  The first thing I did was buy a pair of socks because none of ours were exactly right for the project.  I got these polka dotted socks at Wal Mart.  They were knee socks so they were very long socks.  Wal Mart, for some reason, does not sell Fiberfil anymore.  So my mother in law, Mama S, bought me a big cheap pillow that I had Harry Potter take apart.

Harry Potter loved ripping that pillow apart!  And I have to give a shout out here to Mama S for being the craftiest person I know!  I would have never thought to take a pillow apart for the fiberfil.  But, luckily, she did!

Once HP got the fiberfil into my basket there, I proceeded to make the sock monkey.  I got off to a real good start.  My new sewing machine is awesome!  Words cannot begin to describe the awesome-ness of my new sewing machine!  I love it!  But once the hand sewing started, it was slow going.  I have arthritis and as much as I love hand sewing and embroidery, I just can't do it for hours anymore like I used to.  So it took me almost an entire month to make this sock monkey!

Yes, it took a long time and the sock monkey is very funny looking.  But HP really loves him and Pinball Wizard thinks he's cool.  So I think I'll make more.  But not just yet.  My next project is going to be either some pajama bottoms for HP or a pillow case.

Happy New Year

Today is January 1, 2010 and I am embarking on a new adventure. I'm getting my sewing machine today, my first sewing machine I must add, and I'm going to learn to sew. Cool beans, eh? I'm really excited and a little scared. The first thing I'm going to make is a sock monkey. I read that it takes minimal sewing skills and I have minimal sewing skills. So it's a perfect project and my little boy, Harry Potter, is going to help me. He's 8 so I don't know how much help he'll be. But it should be fun!

My husband, Pinball Wizard, is also excited about the sock monkey project. And he's excited about the new pinball machine he just picked up yesterday. It's called Black Pyramid and it's a pretty groovy game. It has mummies on it, so Harry Potter really loves it! Ever since he saw those Mummy movies, you know the ones starring Brendan Fraser? He's been crazy for mummies. He just started watching The Wizards of Waverly Place just because one of their episodes featured a mummy. Kids are funny little creatures!

My inlaws are coming today so I have some pumpkin bread in the oven. I put raisins in this batch. It smells so good in here right now! I love the smell of pumpkin bread baking! I actually love the smell of most stuff baking. I think that's why I bake. I really don't eat it. Thats Pinball Wizard's job. He loves when I bake. Strangely, though, Harry Potter doesn't. He's the weirdest kid! He won't eat a cookie to save his life! He says he hates sugar and can smell it a mile away! He does, however, love Season Salt. He'd eat it by the spoonfull if I'd let him. He doesn't know that one of ingredients in Season Salt is sugar. I don't think I'll tell him that.

My pumpkin bread is done and so is this post. Happy New Year everybody!
